Closing an Opportunity
When you are ready to close an opportunity, you can change the status of the opportunity in the Opportunity Detail view to Closed-Won or Closed-Lost. It is recommended that you close an opportunity even if it is not a sale. For future reference and reporting purposes, you should provide the reason for closing the opportunity. Use the Opportunity Comments box to provide more information on the reason for the loss or for the won sale.

Open the Opportunity Detail view of the opportunity you want to close.
- In the Status box, click the drop-down arrow, and select Closed-Won from the list.
The Close Opportunity dialog box opens.

If necessary, modify the Actual Amount of the sale.
- If necessary, modify the Actual Close date. To modify the date, click the Calendar

button, select a new date, and then click OK.
- In the Reason Won box, click the ellipsis

button, select an item or items from the list, and then click OK.
- If necessary, click the Comp. Replaced Find

button to select the competitor that lost the opportunity. To select a competitor, select a competitor from the Find a Competitor dialog box, and then click OK. Repeat this process until all replaced competitors are added.
- In the Comments box, enter any additional notes.
- Click OK.
- Open the Opportunity Detail view of the opportunity you want to close.
- In the Status box, click the drop-down arrow, and select Closed-Lost from the list.
- If necessary, modify the Actual Amount of the sale.
- If necessary, modify the Actual Close date. To modify the date, click the Calendar

button, select a new date, and then click OK.
- In the Reason Lost box, ellipsis

button, select an item or items from the list, and then click OK.
- If necessary, click the Competitor Find

button to select the competitor that lost the opportunity. To select a competitor, select a competitor from the Find a Competitor dialog box, and then click OK.
- In the Comments box, enter any additional notes.

Click Save
